Two crocheted hats worn by marshmallow mugs that look like a pumpkin spice latte and a caramel apple.

It’s time to start talking about pumpkin spice EVERYTHING! I love Fall and for me pumpkin spice is top on the list of favorite things. I think it’s fantastic that they add that delightful flavor to practically everything this time of year. Another one of my fall favorites are gooey caramel apples. Mmmmmmm, yum. This month's marshmallow mug hats are the next best thing to eating these delightful treats and I have the free patterns for you right here.

Decorating the caramel apple hat:

Hands gluing crocheted "caramel" onto a crocheted apple hat worn by a marshmallow mug.

Put the apple "base" onto a marshmallow mug to hold it. Use hot glue to attach the caramel to the apple.

Start by putting glue on the center "base" portion of the caramel and place it on top of the center of the apple.

Squeeze glue onto each "drip" of caramel, carefully straighten it out, and place it on the apple. Hold it in place until cooled.

Cut popsicle stick or lollipop stick to about 2 1/4 inches and hot glue to the center of the top of the hat.

Tie a small bow onto the stick and use hot glue to secure.

ch 32

Being careful not to twist your chains, sl st to the first ch to make a ring.

Blue arrow pointing to the back bumps of a crocheted set of chains made from I Love This Yarn in Desert Glaze.

row 1 – sc in each back bump of each of the chains, sl st to the first sc, ch 1 (31) Here's a video tutorial for this stitch.

A crocheted round band of a pumpkin spice marshmallow mug hat made from I Love This Yarn in Desert Glaze.

rows 2-7 – sc in each stitch around, sl st to the first sc, ch 1 (31)

row 8 – sc in each stitch around, sl st to the first sc, do not chain (31)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Adding the whipped cream base to the pumpkin spice latte hat:

G 4 mm hook

With Antique White yarn

Hands and a crochet hook showing where the back loop is on a crocheted item made with I Love This Yarn in Desert Glaze.

Attach Antique White yarn with a sl st and ch 1 (I usually do this at the beginning/end of rows of the Desert Glaze section).

-This entire section is done in the back loops only (blo) including the invisible decreases. (See above photo)

-DO NOT join rows. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each row and move it when you start a new row. There's a tutorial here for making your own stitch markers.

Hands and a Clover Armour crochet hook doing an invisible decrease on a marshmallow mug hat.

row 1 – (1 sc in the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch), repeat around, do not join (40)

rows 2-3 – sc in each stitch around, do not join (40)

row 4 – (inv dec, sc in the next 2 stitches), do not join (30) Go here for a video tutorial for the invisible decrease stitch.

row 5 – (inv dec, sc in the next stitch), do not join (20)

row 6 – inv dec around, do not join (10)

row 7 – inv dec around, do not join (5)

Finish off, cut your yarn and leave about 4-6 inches of a tail. Use a darning/yarn needle and the tail to go under the back loops to tighten the last stitch.

Weave in the ends.

Hands using a Clover Armour crochet hook to attach yarn under a front loop on a pumpkin spice latte marshmallow mug hat.

Adding whipped cream to the pumpkin spice latte hat:

Attach Antique White yarn with a slip stitch to the very first front loop from row 1.

Working to the left, hdc in each front loop around row 1 continuing into each of the following rows like a spiral.

Hands pinching a row of crocheted front loops to make the whipped cream of a pumpkin spice marshmallow mug hat.

I find it helpful to pinch below the front loop of the row you are working in so the loops are exposed and easy to get into.

Hands using a darning/yarn needle to weave in an end of yarn on the crocheted whipped cream of a pumpkin spice marshmallow mug hat.

Once you have finished crocheting into all the front loops, cut your yarn leaving a 4 to 6-inch tail.

Use a darning/yarn needle to pull the tail from the top of the hat to the inside and tighten but not so much that the whippy look of the whipped cream on top buckles.

Weave in the end.

Hands fluffing up the crocheted whipped cream on a pumpkin spice marshmallow mug hat made with I Love This Yarn.

You can use your fingers on the inside of the hat to push the whipped cream outward or pull up on the very top of the hat to “fluff” it up.

Decorating the Pumpkin Spice Latte Hat:

Cricut Design Space and a png of a coffee shop princess logo.

Download the fake logo in Cricut Design Space or any other program you feel comfortable using. If you need help uploading to Design Space, here's a tutorial.

Size the design to be 1 inch x 1 inch.

Print out the design, laminate or take to an office supply store to have laminated.

Cut out the design.

Hot glue to the front of the mug hat.

Hands using orange glitter glue to apple fake cinnamon sprinkles to a crocheted marshmallow mug hat.

Using glitter glue or fabric paint, add “cinnamon” dots to the top of the whipped cream of the latte.

Cut a green pipe cleaner or a disposable straw about 1.25 inches tall and hot glue between rounds 3 and 4.

Now you're ready for fall! Enjoy these calorie free treats and make some to give away too.
