Are you ready for another animal applique to add to the Cuddle Buddies Blanket? This is the eighth animal pattern for this baby blanket, and it is my favorite animal - a sloth! What is it about sloths that just makes you want to snuggle them up? I think it's the slow smile and the fuzziness. Whatever the reason, sloths are just so darn cute.
Just like the other Cuddle Buddies patterns, this pattern is very easy, beginner-friendly, and has a video tutorial to walk you through the whole thing.
Let's jump right in!

G 4 mm hook - these are my absolute favorite hooks
Worsted weight size 4 yarn - I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn in Toasted Almond, Ivory, Cinnamon, and Black
Gauge:
Not important for this project. If your sloth’s face is a little larger or a little smaller it will still fit wonderfully.
Yardage:
Toasted Almond – 11 yards
Ivory – 8 yards
Cinnamon – 2 yards
Black and White – small amounts
Stitch Abbreviations:
mc – magic circle
ch - chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
Notes:
The ch at the start of each row does not count as a stitch.
Sl st to the first stitch of the row, not the chain.
The first stitch of the row SHOULD be in the same stitch you slip stitched into.

Finish off the Ivory yarn leaving a long tail for attaching the claws to the blanket.
Attach Toasted Almond yarn with a sl st to the base of the claws with the claws pointing toward you. We will be using the second side of the original ch 4 to form a “hand.”
Sc in the same stitch as your sl st and in 2 more stitches (3)
Finish off and leave a long tail to attach the hand to the blanket. Weave in the starting end.
Sloth's Nose Pattern
B 2.25 mm hook
With Black yarn
Mc
Place 2 sc, 1 hdc, 2 sc, 1 hdc in the circle, sl st to the first sc (6)
Tighten the mc and finish off leaving a long tail to attach the nose to the face later. Weave in the starting tail.
Assembling the Sloth Applique
Use a yarn needle and the tails left from each of the body parts to sew the pieces onto one another and the blanket.
1. Attach the eyes to the face.
2. Attach the nose just below the eyes on the face.
3. With Black yarn embroider the mouth onto the face below the nose.
4. Sew the face onto the head.
5. Sew the head onto the blanket block. I like to place this near one of the joins on the block.
6. Sew the claws onto the blanket with the back edge overlapping the sloth's head just a bit and so it looks like the claws are holding the “frame” created from the block joins.
This little guy looks great on the Cuddle Buddies Blanket and would also work anywhere you want a crocheted applique.
