It’s time to add another animal applique to the Cuddle Buddies Baby Blanket! This time I have an adorable calico cat pattern. I am releasing patterns each month for this blanket and there will be nine total animal appliques. You can go here for the free pattens to make the blanket blocks, join them together and find the other animals.

Supplies to Crochet a Cat Applique:
G 4 mm hook - these are my all-time favorite hooks
Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in Ivory, Black, and Latte
Very small amount of pink felt
Guage:
Not important for this project. If your cat’s face is a little larger or a little smaller it will still fit wonderfully.
Yardage:
Ivory – 13 yards
Black – 7 yards
Latte – 7 yards
Stitch Abbreviations:
mc – magic circle
ch - chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
Notes:
The ch at the start of each row does not count as a stitch.
The sl st to the first stitch of the row, not the chain.
The first stitch of the row should NOT be in the same stitch you slip stitched into.

Cat Paw Pattern
Make 2
With Ivory yarn
row 1 - mc and place 6 sc in the mc, sl st to the first sc, ch 1 (6)
row 2 – 2 sc in each stitch around, sl st to the first sc, ch 1 (12)
Finish off leaving long tails on each paw for sewing onto the blanket.
Use Black yarn and a yarn needle to embroider on claws.
Assemble all the Cat's Parts:
Use a darning/yarn needle and the long yarn tails left on the body parts to sew pieces together.
Sew the ears onto the back of the head – the Black ear on the right and the Latte ear on the left with about 5 empty stitches between. Do NOT cut off any remaining yarn.
Sew the cheeks onto the face overlapping a bit at the center.
With Black yarn and a yarn needle, embroider a smile and whiskers onto the muzzle/cheeks AND eyes just above the muzzle.
Sew the head onto the blanket. I like to put the face in the corner of one of the blocks. Use the Ivory yarn for most of the head, and the leftover yarn from the ears to attach the ears and the Black section of the head to the blanket.
Sew the paws onto the blanket overlapping the bottom of the face and the white “frame” of the block joins.
Cut a small triangle from pink felt and use hot glue and glue sticks to attach the nose at the top of and between the two cheek pieces.
