Make Fun Conversation Heart Earrings in Just 5 Minutes

A girl's ear with an earring in made from four colorful wooden conversation hearts.

Valentine's Day is almost here and what better way to jazz up an outfit than with some cute earrings? In just five minutes you can make a pair of Conversation Heart Earrings that look great and are super lightweight, so they won't pull on your ears while you wear them. Plus, they only require a few supplies and are very inexpensive. I can show you how to make standard post earrings, or "dangly" earrings for yourself or to give away.

Let's jump right in! Watch the video tutorial:

To Make Post Conversation Heart Earrings:

Hands applying E600 glue to an earring blank.

Apply a small dab of E6000 glue to the flat portion of the earring blank and center it on the back of a conversation heart.

Hands near an earring created with an earring blank and a wooden conversation heart.

Press down until it is flush with the back of the heart and still in the middle. Let it dry for 6-8 hours, and they are ready to go!

To Make Dangly Conversation Heart Earrings:

Hands using a hand drill to create a hole in a wooden conversation heart.

Line up the hearts in the order you would like them so you know where they will fall in the lineup.  I decided to have mine turned slightly – one to the right and the next to the left – because I liked how it looked.

Use the hand drill and the 1.5 mm drill bit to create a hole in the top of each conversation heart and the bottom if it is going to have another hanging from it.

Decide where you want the hole, press the drill bit into the spot and hold the heart with one hand while spinning or turning the drill bit with the other while you apply some pressure. The drill bit will break through to the other side. Remove the drill and brush off any wood dust.

If the heart will have another attached at the bottom, drill a hole there too.

Hands using a jump ring opening tool and a pair of needle nose pliers to open a silver jump ring.

Use your jump ring opening tool and a pair of needle nose pliers to open a jump ring. If you don’t have a jump ring opening tool you could just use two pairs of pliers.

Place the ring on one of your fingers. Rotate the jump ring so the opening is at the top and you can see it. Grab one side of the jump ring with the pliers and insert the other side into a slot on the jump ring opening tool. Press down with one hand while pulling toward you with the other and the jump ring will twist open.

Hands using a needle nose pliers to insert an open jump ring through a hole in a yellow wooden conversation heart.

Insert the jump ring into one of the holes on a conversation heart and then slide a second heart onto the other side of the same jump ring.

Close the jump ring by reversing the motions you used to open it.

Repeat the process to attach all of the hearts for that earring.

Lastly, attach a fishhook earwire to the top heart by sliding the heart and the loop at the bottom of the earwire onto the same open jump ring.

That’s really all there is to it! These are super cute and Valentine-y but only take a minute to put together.
